Join the Burnaby Board of Trade for Green Talks 2023. This annual environmental event brings together individuals from all walks of life to hear about, discuss, and engage on the topic of embedding and enhancing sustainability throughout our community. 

Green Talks 2023 will feature our annual fast-paced sustainability session. Hear five rapid-fire presentation segments where speakers will present interesting and engaging 5-minute talks on all things sustainability.

About our speakers:

Paul Maughan-Brown, Content Manager at Sole/ReCork - Paul Maughan-Brown's love for the natural world was cultivated in the vast wild spaces of his home country, South Africa. He now lives in Vancouver, working as the Content Manager for SOLE and ReCork, two brands that neatly combine his passions for outdoor adventure and storytelling. Snowy peaks, sunny trails, or salty turn, Paul's happy place is wherever he can feel the power of nature.

Elisabeth Baudinaud, Founder and Principal at Carbon Wise - Elisabeth is the founder and principal of Carbon Wise. Elisabeth is an inspirational leader who takes a vision and makes it a reality through sound strategy development. Carbon Wise is the result of her passion and desire to find tangible solutions for design teams that strive to make a positive impact. She believes that buildings can not only be efficient, healthy, and beautiful, but also helpful to reverse climate change. Outside of Carbon Wise, Elisabeth is a Senior Community Energy Manager with the Community Energy Association and guides local governments through bold and globally impactful climate action. She also volunteers with the Carbon Leadership Forum – Vancouver Hub to empower construction industry professionals to radically reduce the carbon footprint of buildings and infrastructure.

Ben Liegey, Founder and CEO of BetterTable.ca - Ben Liegey is a food waste expert, Founder and CEO at BetterTable.ca. As CEO, Ben leads BetterTable.ca coaching hospitality leaders to reduce food costs and have a positive impact. Above all he is a renowned expert in food waste prevention. He is the first accredited consultant "The Pledge on Food Waste" in Canada, with a food background combined with an executive MBA.

Will Fan, Founder and CEO of Emobily - Will Fan is a serial tech entrepreneur who has built and founded multiple companies. He has won both national, and international awards, and competed in the top 10 finalists for electric vehicle technology - including Innovators and Entrepreneurs Foundation Global Impact Award, funded by UPS and a Founder who has been sponsored by Microsoft personally. Will has helped thousands of people and supported our local communities with his electric scooters.

Mary Jo Biernes, Director of Studios at MBS Equipment Co. - Mary Jo Biernes has been the Director of Studios for MBSE since 2021, and is a tireless advocate for improving sustainable practices in the Film and TV Industry. She is a member of the Reel Green Advisory Committee, and active member of the Clean Energy Committee, and DGC National and Provincial Sustainability Teams. Mary Jo has previously worked as a location manager in the Directors Guild for 25 years.
