In late 2019, the Government of B.C. made history by being the first jurisdiction in Canada to adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples through legislation. The provincial legislation, Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, is the framework for reconciliation in B.C. and ensures the human rights of Indigenous peoples are respected and helps create clarity and predictability for all people in British Columbia.
