The job vacancy rate in BC has reached record highs, and the expectation is that the province will see 83,000 unfilled jobs over the next decade, with certain sectors experiencing significant strain.
Accessing international students, in BC for study, as a labour pool is one potential solution to help Burnaby businesses meet their workforce needs.

Speakers:
Vivian Yuen is a Canadian immigration lawyer at Larlee Rosenberg. Vivian practices in all areas of immigration law, including applications for work permits, permanent residence, family sponsorship, permanent resident card renewals, and citizenship. Her clients have included individuals and families from all areas of the world to companies in various sectors, including information technology, entertainment, manufacturing, infrastructure, construction, engineering, mining, clean technology, finance, and education.
Vivian has served as a Director of the Burnaby Board of Trade, and Chair of its Pacific Gateway Committee.
Muriel Klemetski is a long-term Co-operative Education practitioner and Work Integrated Learning director at Simon Fraser University who is dedicated to the ongoing development and improvement of the field of Work Integrated Learning and career development of students. The SFU Work Integrated Learning unit currently manages over 72 undergraduate and 22 graduate co-operative education and internship programs across the 8 Faculties with over 9000 co-op students in the program.
Eva Wong is an International Programs Advisor in the School of Business + Media at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. She is a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) well-versed in Canadian immigration and visa topics relevant to international students. She also advises BCIT students on a wide range of international programs such as exchange, double degree, summer field school and global business studies.
Lianne Johnston is Douglas College's Co-operative Education (Co-op Ed) Coordinator/Practitioner. Lianne’s role focuses on connecting with new employers while strengthening the bond with current employers to share valuable work opportunities with Douglas College’s curious and knowledgeable Co-op students. Lianne earned her Master of Arts in Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University and recently received EQ-i (Emotional Intelligence) certification.
