We're back again with another women-centered panel, where we bring together a group of bright, talented women to share their journey in their industry.
You’ll hear a keynote presentation from the Honourable Josie Osborne, Minister of Health. Followed by a panel discussion Moderated by Danielle Sleiman of Burnaby Hospital Foundation, featuring Nathalie LeVasseur of BC Cancer, Carrie Meagher of BCIT - School of Health Sciences, and Naushina Kiely of One Oak Counselling.
We’re looking forward to hearing about lessons learned, success stories, and insight into the health industry right here in Burnaby.
About Our Presenters
Keynote Presenter – The Honourable Josie Osborne, Minister of Health is the Minister of Health, and she has previously served as Minister of Municipal Affairs, Minister of Land, Water and Resource Stewardship and Minister Responsible for Fisheries, and as Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation.
Josie grew up on Vancouver Island and has lived in Tofino for over 20 years, first moving there to work as a fisheries biologist for the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council and later as executive director of an environmental education non-profit organization.
She was the Mayor of Tofino from 2013-2020 and served as Chair and Vice-Chair for the Alberni Clayoquot Regional District. Josie also chaired the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional Hospital District for four years and sat on the Alberni-Clayoquot Health Network for six years. During her time in local government, Josie chaired the Tofino Housing Corporation. She has served as Chair of the Board for the Island Coastal Economic Trust, and in 2017, she was appointed by the BC Minister of Environment and Climate Change to the BC Clean Growth and Climate Action Advisory Council.
Moderator – Danielle Sleiman, Vice President, Development, Burnaby Hospital Foundation
Danielle Sleiman is an award-winning, fundraising and communications professional with over a decade of experience in the not-for-profit sector. She specializes in developing fundraising campaigns, marketing strategies, sponsorships, and event management. Danielle is currently the Vice President of Development at Burnaby Hospital Foundation and other leadership experiences include Executive Director at Cystic Fibrosis Canada (BC/Yukon) and Director of Corporate Partnerships and Sponsorships at Ronald McDonald House BC/Yukon.
Danielle holds a CFRE designation, a bachelor’s degree in communications from SFU, an Associate Certificate in Marketing Management from BCIT, and a certificate from Minerva BC’s Women Leading the Way Advanced Leadership Program. She is a 2024 recipient of Business in Vancouver’s 40 Under 40 award and the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy’s 40 Under 40 award.

Nathalie LeVasseur, Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology at the University of British Columbia for BC Cancer
Nathalie LeVasseur is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology at the University of British Columbia. Dr. LeVasseur is the current chair of the Breast Tumour Group in British Columbia, the co-lead of the Breast Cancer Clinical Trials Unit in Vancouver and serves on the Canadian Cancer Trials Group Executive Committee and the REAL Alliance with Breast Cancer Canada. Her research focus is in the development of personalized oncology and the improvement of patient outcomes and survivorship programs.
Naushina Kiely, RCC Registered Clinical Counsellor and Founder/Owner, One Oak Counselling
Naushina Kiely is the founder and owner of One Oak Counselling, a Burnaby-based private practice. With 10 years in private practice and a total of 28 years in the helping profession (including 18 years in the non-profit sector and teaching at a private college), she leads a team of 13 clinicians serving children, youth, and adults. The clinic offers confidential, evidence-based counselling for individuals and couples, with flexible in-person and telehealth options. A Burnaby native, Naushina is proud to support her community’s mental health and growth.
Carrie Meagher, Manager, Simulation & Experiential Learning, School of Health Sciences, BCIT
With over 6 years of leadership experience, Carrie Meagher manages BCIT's SoHS Simulation and Experiential Learning Program, driving strategy, resource optimization, and innovation. Previously, she led BCIT's Emergency Nursing Specialty Program and worked as an Emergency and Critical Care Nurse at Vancouver General Hospital. Carrie holds a BScN from York University, a Masters of Nursing in Education from the University of Victoria, and advanced certifications in Emergency, Critical Care, and High Acuity Nursing from BCIT. Currently she is pursuing an eMBA at SFU. Carrie is passionate about collaboration and growth, and leads a dynamic team to enhance learning through cutting-edge simulation practice.
